Case Study: Pilates at Roundwood Health Clinic
I was referred to Pilates by my physio, Ollie, in March 2017. This followed a diagnosis by my consultant at the Northern General that I had a broken lumbar vertebra. Ollie advised me that Pilates would help to stabilise my condition by strengthening my core.
Faced with an alternative option of surgery my preference was to look at other ways forward with an open mind.
My partner, Julie, and I initially booked on a six-week programme of weekly sessions with Sue Williams which commenced in May. We are now on the fourth block of six weeks.
When I first started the sessions I was only able to walk relatively short distances or stand for a few minutes in one spot before I needed to rest. My Pilates work has enabled me to progress significantly. Last Saturday I walked over three miles with a significant reduction in the discomfort that I had experienced.
As a Pilates teacher Sue has been inspirational in my progression. At the initial sessions, her confidence that Pilates would improve things for me was infectious. Her patience and encouragement have been fantastic.
During her hourly sessions, she has made myself and Julie work hard with a whole range of exercises which she varies each week. It has been challenging and demanding but I feel I am now benefiting significantly.
Julie and I plan to continue with our sessions as long as Sue can put up with us! Thank you.
