Pilates

Pilates is a gentle, low impact form of exercise that incorporates exercises that will help you to develop efficient movement, flexibility, strength, co-ordination, balance and endurance.  Pilates is based on controlled, flowing movements which are described as strengthening the “core” muscles that some people claim will help to stabilise the spine.  There is some evidence that Pilates can help with:

  • Reducing stress and tension
  • Improving flexibility and mobility
  • Creating a sense of wellbeing and calm
  • Improving body awareness
  • Improving weight control balance

 

Hatha Yoga

One widely used definition of Hatha is “movement” which is characterised by a focus on gentle asana – without any flow between poses.  Hatha yoga classes use the breath to create a link between the body and mind.  Hatha yoga classes build flexibility and strength and can be adaptable to suit the client’s needs.

At Roundwood Health Clinic we run both Beginners and Intermediate Pilates and Yoga classes.  A health questionnaire is completed prior to the course which consists of 6 one hour sessions over 6 weeks.  The sociable classes are suitable for all ages and fitness levels and contain a maximum of 6 participants.  All equipment is provided for the classes and we recommend your wear comfortable clothing and footwear.
